During my time at Sorrento Therapeutics, I was directly involved in the establishment of a CLIA lab to be used for in-house testing of patient samples. Among the many hats that were required to be worn, I was specifically responsible for assisting in a variety of assays, managing inventory, sample management, and generating various operating procedures. One assay I was able to gain significant experience in is ELISA. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), is a test specialized in the detection of soluble substances such as antibodies and other complex organic molecules found within biological samples. The assay is based on a specific antigen which is bound to a surface, and antibodies that are able to bind to the antigen with high degree of specificity. A secondary antibody with a marker is attached and allows for a signal to be detected and quantified.
